Alessandra Corine Ambrosio is a Brazilian model. She was born in Erechim, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil on April 11, 1981. Both of her parents are of Italian and Polish descent. She was just eight years when she decided that she wanted to be a model, after seeing a picture of top cover girl- Karen Mulder in a magazine. At age 11, she had a cosmetic surgery to get her ears pinned back because she was always insecure of her large ears. Though two years later she suffered complications and it discourages her from getting plastic surgery again. As an early teen she enrolled at a modeling class and subsequently was entered into an elite modeling competition in Brazil and was offered an Elite contract after a year.
Her modeling job was the cover of the Brazilian magazine Marie Claire, and she followed other editorial work, but it was not long after that the Marcianos at Guess signed Ambrosio for their fall Millennium campaign in 2000. Not only this, she also worked with brands including Revlon, Christian Dior, Giorgio Armani, Rolex, Oscar de la Renta, Gucci, Escada, Rocco Barocco, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren, as well as the Pirelli Calendar. She has walked catwalks for designers such as Prada, Laura Biagotti, Dolce and Gabbana, Fendi, Marc Jacobs and a lot more. Aside from this, she also appeared in numerous international magazine covers including Cosmopolitan, Elle, GQ, Marie Claire, Ocean Drive, Vogue and the only model to appear on the cover of Glamour in the United States in 2006.
Ambrosio’s best known collaboration is with American lingerie brand Victoria’s secret. She appeared in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion as well as she was the one selected as the first spokes model for Victoria’s Secret “PINK” line and became a contracted “Angel”. In 2005, she notably walked the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show runway wearing lingerie made entirely out of candy. She then garnered attention in the 2008 edition of the Fashion Show, walking down the runway with a gorgeous body only three months after giving birth to her first child- Anja Louise Ambrosio Mazur.
Alessandra Ambrosio’s angel status has brought her to the public’s attention, often being cited by the popular media as one of the world’s sexiest women. She was chosen as one of People magazine’s annual “100 Most Beautiful People in the World” with fellow Angels. Additionally, she is among the world’s top earning models.
She has made several television appearances notably a cameo as herself on HBO’s entourage along with Izabel Goulart; as guest judge on Project Runway season 2: Team Lingerie, and The Tyra Banks Show which she was a guest twice. In 2006, she had a cameo on the box office hit movie, Casino Royale.
The proud owner of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Alessandra Ambrosio would like to parlay her incredible modeling success into other areas, with entertainment being one major possibility. She would also like climbing the acting ranks until she’s able to work with her favorite directors Quentin Tarantino, and Tim Burton and her acting crush Johnny Depp. If the whole acting thing doesn’t work out, then she preferred to go to medical school. She also aspires to be a cardiologist.
Currently she is the National Ambassador for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, helping raise awareness for the unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system and raise funds for the ongoing research for its cure.
