Often a young actress will deliver a performance so strong, so mature she is feted as the Next Big Thing. But the description is usually used more in hope than expectation. We all know that many years and many films can pass before she’ll live up to her early promise, if indeed she ever does. Early 2004, though, saw the arrival of a young talent who seemed near fully-formed, despite being still in her teens. As said, many youngsters break through with one outstanding performance, yet here was Scarlett Johansson, double-nominated at the Golden Globes and BAFTAs for the parts she played in Lost In Translation and Girl With A Pearl Earring. A double-nominee – this showed a consistent level of excellence ordinarily only reached by the likes of Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore and Holly Hunter. And this was an 18-year-old. Surely, there could this time be no doubt that this was the Next Big Thing.

Scarlett Johansson was born on the 22^nd of November, 1984 in New York City. She has an older brother and sister and a twin brother. She divides her time between her father in New York, an architect and her mother at Los Angeles, who looks out for her interests there. She’s the only actor in the family, something she’d wanted to be since she was three years of age. Her acting career began when she was eight in the off-Broadway production of Sophistry with Ethan Hawke at New York’s Playwrights Horizons.

Having been attending public school in New York, Scarlett would be informed that her absences for work would not be tolerated. She’d transfer to a private establishment, then later receive tuition onset. Eventually she’d attend the Professional Children’s School in Manhattan, graduating in Sping, 2002.

She has been in a lot of movies. She attained worldwide recognition for her performance as Grace MacLean, the teen traumatized in a riding accident in Robert Redford’s hit feature The Horse Whisperer, a role for which she won a Young Star award and was nominated for a Blockbuster entertainment Award. She has most recently been spotlighted for her performances in the acclaimed films Ghost World.

Johansson made the transition from teen roles to adult roles, with two such roles in 2003. In the Sofia Coppola film Lost in Translation, she played Charlotte, an abandoned young wife, opposite Bill Murray. In July 2005, Johansson starred, with Ewan McGregor, in Michael Bay’s science fiction film, The Island, in dual roles as Sarah Jordan and her clone, Jordan Two Delta. The film was a domestic financial failureand received mixed critical reviews. In contrast, her role as Nola, the American actress with whom Chris (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) is obsessed, in the Woody Allen-directed drama Match Point, was well-received. She still played a lot of movies in the year 2007-2009. Its just too many to write about her accomplishments.

For her personal life she rarely discusses about it since she always believe that it is nice to have everybody not know your business. She has been linked to many famous man including Justin Timberlake, Benicio del Toro, Jared Leto, and her co-star Josh Hartnett. Scarlett Johansson and Josh Hartnett dated for about two years until the end of 2006. They split up because of their busy lives. In 2007, she started dating a Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds and a year after it was reported that they were engaged and got married at a quiet ceremony near Tofino, British Columbia. They purchased a $2.8 million home together near Los Angeles, California. Recently, last December 14, 2010, Reynolds and Johansson announced that they had separated and plan to divorce.
